Cancer Conversation SOS helps people transform awkward moments into meaningful connections during life’s toughest challenges. Through gently immersive workshops, compelling talks, and The Cancer Cards—the world’s first deck of its kind—we’re changing how people show up when words feel insufficient.
Cancer touches most of our lives only once or twice if we’re lucky, but we’re often ill-equipped to support someone through serious illness. We want to fix it. Spoiler: we can’t. But we can make their experience better by learning how to connect authentically during difficult times.
Drawing on conversations with dozens of survivors and caregivers, mixing in insights from psychology and years of teaching experience, Heat created Cancer Conversation SOS to help people find their way to better support using tools that fit their needs. Whether you’re joining a workshop, attending a talk, or using The Cancer Cards, you’ll gain practical strategies for creating moments of normal connection in strikingly abnormal times.
The result? A movement that’s transforming how we show up for each other when support matters most.

Cancer Conversation SOS Mission Statement
We believe that most people genuinely want to be helpful and supportive and simply have had no models or training on how to do it well. With a little bit of help, we can learn how to offer sincere, unobtrusive support despite it being difficult or uncomfortable. The tools available in Cancer Conversation SOS provide language and mindset for taking the chance on showing up in a way that is new, different, vulnerable, and helpful. We hope that as this spreads, the skills become easier, the skills are modeled to others, and we have an upward spiral.

In 2007 at 31 years old, Heat’s world turned upside down with a cancer diagnosis. As treatment wore on, she faced an unexpected side effect: watching her loved ones struggle to know how to interact. As she befriended others with cancer, she learned that it wasn’t just her—everyone she knew had relationships strained by the discomfort and fear that often surrounds crisis.
Fast forward through years of processing and growth. A simple question—”What did you wish people knew when you were going through cancer?”—ignited a spark. Heat realized she held the key to solving a problem that touches millions: how to show up for people when they need it most.
The result? Cancer Conversation SOS, a suite of powerful, practical tools for compassionate communication. It’s not just a company; it’s a movement to transform how we communicate during life’s most challenging chapters. Using workshops, talks, and The Cancer Cards, Heat helps people bridge the communication gap that often appears during serious illness.

Her signature talk brings these insights to larger audiences. Blending personal stories with clear guidance, Heat inspires people to move through their discomfort and create moments of normal connection in strikingly abnormal times.
For ongoing support, The Cancer Cards—launched in 2024 as the world’s first deck of its kind—serve as a practical, hands-on tool. About Heat
Heat Dziczek is the creator of Cancer Conversation SOS and The Cancer Cards and brings an unexpected combination of skills to her work as a communication expert. With a bachelor’s degree in music, a master’s in counseling, and twenty years of teaching experience from preschool to college level, she understands how to break complex skills into manageable steps. Her career spans classroom band and music instruction, personal training, and health coaching—all driven by her passion for those “ah-ha” moments when students master a challenging piece of music, find peace with their food choices, or successfully navigate a previously impossible conversation. When cancer at age 31 revealed widespread communication challenges around serious illness, Heat recognized how her background in explicit skill-building could help others have their own breakthrough moments in difficult situations. She lives in metro Phoenix with her husband, son, and their two Chihuahua mixes who have not learned the art of gentle conversations. Her favorite moments now? Getting texts from workshop participants, sharing their success stories of meaningful connections in challenging times.
